Free Food To Promote Ecotourism

What: Near Ranong provincial town, villagers pitch in to create an amazing eating festival to entice visitors to explore nearby ecotourism trails. From the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s website: “To draw attention to their forest tours they created an eating festival. It promises a scrumptious display of snacks and heavy-duty dining delivered to the village stalls by no less than 35 villages that make up the La Un district. No duplications are allowed. Villages have drawn on southern culinary skills to showcase a wealth of down-to-earth cooking skills delivering a selection of spicy main dishes to eat with rice and an array of sweet deserts and snacks.”

When & Where: January 27th & 28th, 2009, at Ranong. A beautiful drive actually once you’ve passed Petchaburi!

The 1,000 Baht Escape

What: “If you’re tired of bad economic and political news, leave your worries behind and take a trip during the New Year to refresh yourself before starting 2009,” suggests the Bangkok Post. “This time, though, the trip should be simple and affordable at only 1,000 baht a day to suit the present belt-tightening situation.”

The trip taught some about happiness from the simplicity that they had ignored for a long time.

Where: All about the 999-baht-trip you find here – including accommodation. Excluding though beer.
