The 1,000 Baht Escape

What: “If you’re tired of bad economic and political news, leave your worries behind and take a trip during the New Year to refresh yourself before starting 2009,” suggests the Bangkok Post. “This time, though, the trip should be simple and affordable at only 1,000 baht a day to suit the present belt-tightening situation.”

Agoda Slashes Thailand Hotel Prices

What: More Thailand hotel prices slashed. Looks like a good time to come to Thailand. Take advantage. “There are huge hotel discounts everywhere,” writes hotel booking site Agoda in a mailing.

Where: Agoda actually offers hotels everywhere, but the current Thailand deals are very nice. Phuket’s marvel of a hotel Mövenpick goes for 203 352 US$, Bangkok’s elaborate Lebua for 139 241 US$. Decent Sukhumvit hotels such as Four Wings from 39 68 US$ upwards.

TAT’s Thailand Super Deals

What: Hail the crisis. Great hotel deals during the peak of the high season. Thailand’s Tourism Authority TAT has launched “Super Deal – Thailand’s best deal packages.” You won’t find any backpackers’ offers, but quite tempting prices for spas, boutique and higher-up hotels.
